On July 20, 2022, two dozen Canadian authors and writers released the following statement in response to government policies of medical coercion, segregation and censorship within the Covid dystopia. The statement will remain open for further signatures. If you are a Canadian writer and would like to add your name, email:
Thanks so, so much Kim and your group of authors. The time is well nigh to stand up for our basic rights and freedoms. That this has gone on so long is a travesty!
The fact is that Canada's culture establishment for decades now has been almost 100% dependent upon Canada Council grants and other arts grants from provincial or regional funders. So no wonder most writers refuse to bite the hand that feeds them. A perfect recipe for self-censorship. The same thing happened with the media and the millions being given to them by Trudeau. It turns out that you don't have to tell people what to say or not to say as long as you give them enough money. Even at our local newspaper I see this principle in action. The owners don't believe the Covid nonsense but will only print contrary opinions in the letters pages, not the articles. And yes, they too are on the Trudeau payroll.
True enough, Kim. History is the long game as opposed to today's short-term thinking. I like what Scottish historian Neil Oliver says about history: He finds it comforting to know that nothing we're going through now hasn't happened before—multiple times—in themes and variations.
Thank you Kim! I realize that I've become quite silenced especially on social media, but also in my daily life; since family, work, and larger society around me seem terribly menacing regarding my beliefs about bodily autonomy, government overreach, and just the awful "brave new world" that's been foisted upon us. Sometimes I think the new daily life of "guilty of being sick until proving not sick by testing negative" is more of a mindf*k than any of the rest of it, pitting family against family, friends against friends, co-workers against co-workers. I am impressed by any voices that still speak up and speak out about the horror of what we are experiencing. The fact that the majority doesn't realize the horror is more horrifying than anything else.
Thank you Kim and everyone listed, for your courage. - Lily from Chicago
Terrific! Who wrote this? I could loosely fit description of writer....Please add my name to this list. Want us to publish far & wide, or wait for more signatures?
No way! [Feigned shock.] And it only took three years. [Obvious sarcasm.] Whaddya know. [Cue head cocking and arm-crossing.]
Please excuse my snark, which is directed at Canada's culture establishment, not at you. I don't know you, because Canada's culture establishment alienated me decades ago.
I left the left 20ish years ago and became a political nomad in both my homes: Canada and France. In terms of Canada, it was dead obvious that CBC had become an ideological propaganda machine; and CBC pretty much defines the tone of everything else.
I've been a working writer and editor for decades (bits of my CV are on my Substack 'About' page). Add me to the list!
It's the only time I'll be in the same place as these Greens and NDPers. (Funny, since I was third-generation NDP and even once canvassed for Jack Layton. Today, however, my NDP MP, Jenny Kwan, supports all fascist covid mandates; AND she's an on-record thief of $35K – cash used, she admitted, for a trip to Disney – from an "anti-poverty" organization. You can't make this shit up.)
Hey, I had a couple of articles published in a technical publication! Under a loose definition, I might be a writer. ;-) Mike
Hi all. I wish I could suggest some additional writers to add to this list but most of them have been silent and obedient. Perhaps in time.

Nicely done, Kim. History will vindicate those who stood for truth and freedom.
